Media Update...
Wow
what a year already, I can't believe it. We have been busy with
allot of exciting projects, including working long hours on
post production of our first feature length documentary film
"2nd
Verse," fundraising for our up and coming feature length
documentary project "Punto
de Vista," and providing videography, educational services,
and video production to several Bay
Area non-profits. Nun of which would be possible without
our clients, project partners, and dear friends.
Thank
you for your continued support, if you would like to learn more
about these projects read our update or visit our newly redesigned
website at www.corduroymedia.com.
peace,

“SECOND
VERSE” explores urban teen life in the San Francisco
Bay Area through the rising popularity of poetry and Spoken
Word. Although poetry is the unifying characteristic that
brings these young people together, the film does not concentrate
on their poems so much as it will tell the story of their
lives. The Bay Area is a melting pot of ethnic and economic
backgrounds. We have documented how these teens coexist
and draw strength from each other, and how the youth poets
in the film are changed by their engagement with spoken
word poetry; exploring their identity and their connection
to their unique California community through spoken word.

“In The
Pines they’ve killed lots of people, they’ve
raped girls. For example, last year they tortured a man;
they cut him in half and left him naked. They’ve found
girls dead there. Sometimes they rape girls and kill them
afterwards and leave them there until they are found. That’s
why I took this photo.” |

running
time: 5:56 format: Digital Video
We are very excited to be working with Adriana Mariño
on "Punto de Vista" a film highlighting
the amazing young people that participate in programs
provided by Disparando Cámaras para la Paz, a Colombian
NGO that provides displaced youth documentary photography
and writing workshops outside of Bogotá. The film
addresses the issues of war, violence and oppression through
the intimate portrayal of these young photographer's daily
lives. We are currently fundraising for "Punto de
Vista" and are seeking contacts and suggestions for
fundraising opportunities. Tax deductible donations can
be made through the fiscal sponsorship of Just Think.

While
doing pre-production work on "Punto de Vista" down in
Colombia this summer we were contacted by a Bay Area non-profit
that was in desperate need of an effective fundraising tool. In
a matter of months, upon our return, we had produced a 5 minute
fundraising video to enhance the effectiveness of this organizations
plea to corporate and private donors. Check out the video below...

Hergl Center
running time: 5:00 format: Digital Video
The Hergl Center is a care facility for the developmentally
disabled. Located in North Berkeley they have been providing
personal care to disabled adults for the last twenty years,
With a continued decline in state and federal funding
the Hergl Center contacted us about creating a fundraising
video in order to target individual and corporate donors.
The Hergl Center will use this video on the web and during
live presentations in order to connect funders with the
amazing people that rely on the center for daily care.

In
order to continue to give our prospective clients and curious
friends a better idea of the types of projects we produce we have
updated our portfolio
page with several past projects. Visit our website to view
the added material.
We
have participated in several after-school and in-school education
programs and are currently leading an after-school digital production
and media literacy workshop for 6th, 7th and 8th graders in Visitation
Valley. From media literacy to digital still and video production
it is imperative that young people learn about the media messages
they are bombarded with everyday. Along with learning to deconstruct
these messages it is important that these young people learn to
construct there own messages through the use of media tools.
"Real
Man" Workshop
We were fortunate to lead a workshop in January for young men
at Huckleberrry
Youth Services, were we lead the participants through several
exercises in order to learn the tools to deconstruct media messages
we are given about being men. Using Hip Hop videos and music we
were able to take a close look at some the most influential media
for young men today and then use the power of that medium to create
our own messages, through rapping, about being a "Real Man."
We
are currently working on updating our website to include all of
the workshops that we provide. Until then, if you have any further
questions about our educational services please contact us directly
at cb@corduroymedia.com.
