A integrated experiential installation, using a combination of video storytelling, in-person graphics and interactive digital experiences has the potential to reach and engage an audience beyond a stand alone video.
We were recently contacted by one of our favorite clients, The College of Arts and Sciences at Santa Clara University. They loved the video work we had been doing together over the years and wanted to do more. I asked why - who was the audience they wanted to reach and where can we find them?
Who is the audience you want to reach and where are they?
The answer came back that the audience was current and prospective students and can be found and engaged with on campus. So the solution we developed was not stand alone video content but a wrap around experience with a digital component.
After weeks of discovery and discussion we picked a lobby area of the beautiful Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation (SCDI) building to take over. It included a 40ft wall for key art and 1800 sq ft of floor space. Wanting to create an immersive experience while being prohibited from attaching anything to the building we came up with 10ft tall free standing triangle pillars that allowed users to discover stories and content as they walked around and interacted with the exhibit.
The process of discovery was a guiding design principle for the in-person and digital components.
We used QR codes to create portals to the digital content and microsite. This also allowed us to track users and develop some interactive games with prizes handed out from Santa Clara College of Arts and Sciences. The end result has been very exciting. The exhibit is being incorporated into all sorts of on-campus events such as campus tours, open house and admission week.
